The annual Paediatric Therapy Hospice Conference

The annual Paediatric Therapy Hospice Conference attended by physiotherapists from Rainbows Hospice

The annual Paediatric Therapy Hospice Conference, for Physiotherapists & Occupational Therapists provides an invaluable opportunity for professional networking and sharing of best practice amongst Allied Healthcare Professionals working within this field. As always, it was by far the most relevant professional conference to our roles as physiotherapists here at Rainbows, significantly contributing to our knowledge base, skill sets and therapy provision.

The conference agenda included ‘postural management.’ This is applicable to our changing caseload, involving more symptom control and end of life care, enabling us to be better informed to meet individuals specific and often complex needs.
A significant section of the content related to ‘Transitions’ - the movement of children and their families from paediatric to adult services. This gave an insight into how acute and palliative settings support this process around the country. We explored this topic from a slightly different perspective as we continue to support young moving from our service at age 30, to adult specific services.

The networking opportunities and relationships built with other childrens hospice therapists are integral to ensuring a supportive and sharing culture between hospices. It enables questions that come up in daily practice to be explored and answered by a range of experts in their fields, supporting best practice within each of our services.

The conference also provides us as Rainbows physiotherapists with an opportunity to promote the innovative and holistic work that we deliver. This included delivery of a session by Philip, sharing his experience of the Inter-Professional Education PGC he completed in August, encouraging and supporting others to actively seek opportunities to develop in this and other areas of clinical practice.
