The benefits of hydrotherapy

Warm water can reduce pain, and where movement is limited by weakness, it supports the body and takes away much of the effort needed to move. For children who find movement difficult, that freedom can be a joy in itself.

Time in the pool can also:

  • Offer new experiences, from gentle relaxation to sensory stimulation
  • Encourage play and communication
  • Help manage symptoms

A pool made for our children

Many of the children we care for can’t use a public swimming pool, because of the water temperature and the risk of infection. Our hydrotherapy pool is carefully regulated and meets national guidelines for water quality and temperature, and our team of physiotherapists is on hand to support every session.

For many families, hydrotherapy at Rainbows is the first time their child has been able to enjoy a pool. And for some children, whose mobility needs mean they need to be supported by equipment most of the time, the pool provides a place where they can be held and hugged freely – enabling families to make  memories they’ll treasure forever.
