How our therapies help

Therapy at Rainbows is about far more than treatment. It’s about helping a child feel comfortable in their body, express themselves, and enjoy being a child.

Our therapists work as part of a wider care team, shaping each session around what a child needs and loves. And because our care reaches beyond the hospice, many therapies can take place at home, in hospital or in the community too, across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.

Our therapies

Physiotherapy

At Rainbows, we offer physiotherapy to babies, children and young people whose conditions cause symptoms like breathing difficulties, stiffness or pain, helping them feel more comfortable and move more freely.

Hydrotherapy

Warm water has a wonderful way of easing tension, comforting aching muscles and stiff joints, and helping children move more freely than they can on land. For many of the children we care for, time in our hydrotherapy pool brings a real sense of freedom, relaxation and joy.

Music therapy

Music has a powerful way of reaching people, in body and in emotion. At Rainbows, music therapy plays a real role in everything from pain management to physiotherapy and breathing programmes, and it gives children a way to express themselves, connect and simply enjoy the moment.

Comp therapy
Complementary therapy

Complementary therapies are gentle treatments used alongside medical care, never instead of it. With a focus on mind, body and spirit, they can help ease symptoms, aid relaxation and support wellbeing, for the children we care for and for their families too.

Specialist play

Play is one of the most important parts of childhood, and every child deserves the chance to enjoy it, whatever their abilities or medical needs. At Rainbows, our play specialists use play to help babies, children and young people have fun, express themselves, learn and grow, and simply be children.
