What is payroll giving?

Payroll giving, sometimes called Give As You Earn, lets employees donate to Rainbows directly from their salary. Because donations are taken before tax, part of what would have gone to the taxman comes to us instead, so a gift costs the giver less than its full value.

For a basic-rate taxpayer, a £10 monthly gift costs just £8. For a higher-rate taxpayer, it costs even less. Either way, Rainbows receives the full amount, month after month, which helps us plan ahead with confidence.

Why it’s worth it

Regular, reliable giving is invaluable to a charity like ours. It means we can count on a steady source of income, and keep being there for families whenever they need us.

For employers, offering payroll giving is a simple, powerful way to show your company’s values, boost team morale and support a cause your people care about. Many businesses choose to match their employees’ donations too, doubling the impact at no cost to staff.

How to set it up

For employers

To offer payroll giving, your company registers with a payroll giving agency, who manage the donations on your behalf. Once you’re set up, staff can choose to give to Rainbows straight from their pay. If you’d rather, your finance team can also run an internal scheme, forwarding staff donations to us directly.

For employees

If your employer already offers payroll giving, you can choose to support Rainbows through it, and set the amount that’s right for you. If they don’t offer it yet, why not ask? It’s simple to set up and makes a lasting difference.
