Expert, individual care

Our registered physiotherapists work as part of the wider care team, helping to shape and deliver each child’s individual care plan. Physiotherapy can be provided as part of a short break at Rainbows, as an outpatient, or to help manage symptoms during end-of-life care.

Support might include chest clearance, manual handling reviews, positioning, equipment and treatment, all tailored to what each child needs. We also make sure the right resources are in place, and we work closely with the other healthcare professionals involved in a child’s care.

How physiotherapy helps

As part of a child’s palliative care, physiotherapy can:

  • Ease breathing difficulties, such as shortness of breath
  • Relieve discomfort from stiff joints, spasms and muscle pain
  • Help restore or maintain movement and physical function
  • Support pain control
  • Help prevent further problems developing

Working closely with a child’s lead physiotherapist and the wider care team, we make sure this support fits seamlessly around the rest of their care.
