TV presenter Anne Davies is preparing to take on a very different kind of challenge this October – a 212ft abseil down Derby Cathedral to raise money for Rainbows.
The well-known broadcaster, who presents BBC East Midlands Today, will climb 189 steps to the top of the cathedral’s iconic tower before making the spectacular descent back to the ground.
Anne has appeared on BBC Radio 2 Drivetime and BBC East Midlands Today talking about why she’s taking on the challenge, helping to shine a spotlight on Rainbows and the specialist care we provide for babies, children and young people with serious or life-shortening illnesses across the East Midlands.
Anne said: “October 3rd has a big felt tip red ring round it in the diary. I can’t say I am completely looking forward to it, but a challenge isn’t a challenge unless it’s a REAL challenge! Rainbows is an astonishing place, anyone who has been there knows how full of joy and light it is. So if you’re going to channel your inner spiderman down an exceptionally tall tower, then you’d do it for Rainbows. Here’s to raising as much as possible!”

Anne won’t be making the 212ft descent alone. There’s still time to secure one of the remaining places and experience the view from the top of Derby Cathedral for yourself.
Derby Cathedral Abseil is on Saturday 3 October, and open to anyone aged 11 and over. Registration costs £20, with participants asked to raise a minimum of £100 for Rainbows. Everyone taking part receives fundraising support from our team, a Rainbows T-shirt, a safety briefing and support throughout the big day.
