At Rainbows, one of our most popular treatments to receive is Aromatherapy massage. This is performed with essential oils. We can give this treatment to our babies, children, and young people, as well as their parents and siblings.
For our babies, children and young people, we can use either Mandarin, Lavender or Chamomile.
Mandarin is an uplifting oil that is sweet, fresh and fruity. It can help with fluid retention, intestinal issues, and restlessness.
Chamomile has an herbaceous aroma and can help with colic, eczema, earache and inflammation. It is calming to the mind and body.
Lavender has a light floral aroma. It is most well known for aiding sleep, but is also helpful in reducing inflammation, acne, psoriasis, and colic
For our parents, my personal favourite oil to use is Frankincense. It helps slow down and deepen the breathing, thus helping anxiety and panic attacks. It is also good for reducing inflammation and supporting the respiratory system, helping with Catarrh, coughs, colds and flu.
Tina’s Top Tips for Aromatherapy at Home
Essential oils are great to use around the home too. Diffusers and burners are effective ways to disperse the oil droplets into the air. And combinations of oils can have many benefits. When it is cough and cold season, Tea Tree and Lemon work well together to help cleanse the air around us. 3-10 drops can be used in 100ml of water and placed in the diffuser, remember, less is more.
Essential oils can also be used in cleaning products. I use a combination of pine, lime and tea tree in a bucket of warm water to wash my floors.
I also use rosemary, thyme, and lavender on cotton wool pads and place them in my wardrobe to keep the moths away.
Hope you find this little insight into essential oils and aromatherapy useful.
