Expert care and support across Nottinghamshire

Our support goes beyond a child’s clinical care. We provide emotional and practical support for the whole family and help connect families with other services in their local area. Last year, we supported 220 babies, children and young people from Nottinghamshire, providing specialist care and support at home, in local hospitals, in the community and at our hospice in Loughborough.

Our specialist nurses work with children and families across Nottingham to provide expert care and support wherever its needed. Hear from one of our nurses about their role, the families they support and what it means to bring the Rainbows experience closer to home.

At home

Our Hospice at Home team supports families across Nottinghamshire, bringing specialist care into the family home. This can include symptom management, end-of-life care, family support and therapies such as physiotherapy and music therapy.

It means children can receive expert care in familiar surroundings, while their families have specialist support around them when they need it.

In hospital

Our Clinical Nurse Specialists work alongside NHS teams at Nottingham University Hospitals, including Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC). They help assess and plan for a child’s palliative care needs, working with hospital teams to provide joined-up care and support for the whole family.

Local community hubs

Our Nottinghamshire Community Hubs give families already supported by Rainbows opportunities to spend time together, meet other families and access support closer to home.

We also hold Cultural Hubs in Nottingham, creating opportunities for families from different cultural backgrounds to meet, connect and access Rainbows support within their local community.

Meet Arlo from Nottingham

Arlo has a rare genetic neurological condition which means he can become stiff and unable to breathe. In the first two and a half years of his life, Arlo and his mum, Becca, spent just six weeks at home.

Our Clinical Nurse Specialists supported Arlo and his family at Queen’s Medical Centre, where he spent much of his early life. Now he is finally home, our Hospice at Home team continues to provide specialist care and support to Arlo and his family.

“The hospital medical staff are great, but the Rainbows team in hospital are a godsend. Just to have that extra support from that specialist team makes all the difference to us.” Arlo’s mum
