Striders up to the challenge

A STRONG group of Stilton Striders Running Club members travelled to Saffron Lane in Leicester on Friday to take part in the 100-Lap Challenge.

It was a competitive event, but run in the spirit of fun and mutual support by all teams, some competing in fancy dress to raise money for the Loughborough-based Rainbows hospice

Last year, the junior Striders team won the event with the seniors close behind in second place in their category. This year, ably captained and co-ordinated by Wayne Hackett, a combined team of Striders won again, clocking up a time of 2hr 6min 30secs for the 100 laps, more than eight minutes ahead of the second-placed team.

Each team member ran a minimum of five 400m laps in a relay format with the Striders benefitting greatly by having the enthusiastic and expert contribution of the younger members, Jas Southam, Marcus Rowland, George Postle and Joe Postle.

Other team members were Gary Christmas, Nicola Clay, John Cresswell, Christian Davidson, Celia Fox-Mapletoft, Julie Jaggard, Ian Johnson, Ian Mason, Gary Postle, Chris Southam, Catherine Voyce and Helen Widdowson.

Initial feedback from the organisers indicates at least £2,000 will have been raised by the event for Rainbows.
