Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan abseils for Rainbows

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan is aiming to raise thousands of pounds for us by taking on an epic challenge.

After climbing 189 steps, Nicky (46) will abseil down the 212ft tower at Derby Cathedral on Saturday 19 October. She aims to raise £2,500 for our hospice.

“As their own MP, I wanted to support Rainbows in its 25th year,” said Nicky, who has been MP for Loughborough since 2010. “I wanted to fundraise, but I also wanted to do something that was a challenge and the Derby Abseil fits the bill. Rainbows is right in the middle of our community and it is important that we do things to benefit it.

“I am very much looking forward to the event and it is a pleasure to support such a wonderful organisation.”

Places are still available for people in the East Midlands to sign up to the sponsored event and all money raised is for our hospice.

Rainbows Community Fundraiser Ali Furlong said: “We are delighted that Nicky is taking part in the event to help our charity and on behalf of everyone at the hospice, I thank her for her support. We receive very little funding so without the backing of people like Nicky, we wouldn’t be able to open our doors. I hope she inspires others to sign up and take on the challenge.”

People can abseil between 8.30am and 5.30pm. Entry is £20 and we are encouraging participants to raise sponsorship money. Children under 11 are not permitted to take part. To get involved, contact Ali on 01509 638006, email [email protected] or visit rainbows.co.uk/abseil2019
