Leicester fundraiser stages event for Rainbows

A Leicester fundraiser is hoping to raise money for us as he organises a Virtual 2000m Challenge.

For the last 11 years, Dave Muddimer has staged the “Running for Rainbows 100 Lap Challenge”, an event for teams of 20 runners to take part on a running track. But this year, because of Covid-19, the event will be held virtually.

Dave said: “People who take part will still be running the same distance, as if they were on a track, but they will be able to do it anywhere they wish. Usually participants run 5 laps laps of 400m, but this year, they can run the same distance wherever they want, ensuring the location is safe, always abiding by the current government guidelines for Covid-19.”

Teams are invited to participate from East Midlands Running Clubs.  Each team of 20 must include a minimum of five ladies. Individuals, Parkrun runners or groups of friends, family and colleagues can also attempt the distance with their own personal challenge.

This year, The Running for Rainbows Inspiration Award will be presented to an individual or team who additionally fund raise in a special way to support our hospice.

People are invited to take up the challenge between August 1 and 16. Dave hopes to raise £1,500 for our hospice and Leicester Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Neil Swift, of Rainbows, added: “I would like to thank Dave for holding this event and for supporting Rainbows. He is doing a wonderful thing raising funds to help us run the hospice – fundraising efforts make such a huge difference to both the children and young people at Rainbows and their families.”
