Happy Birthday to Rainbows – we turn 25

For 25 years, we have cared for thousands of children, young people and their families from across the East Midlands. Next month, we are celebrating our anniversary with a special birthday party and everyone is invited.

On Saturday 21 September, we will open our doors to the community to showcase our facilities. Guests can take a tour following the 25 years of Rainbows and listen to ‘Tent Talks’ from staff about our vital work.

There will be music from 13-year-old CBBC star Eva Rose Finnemore, who was a hit when she performed at our hospice earlier this year, as well as a Bake Off cake competition.

Visitors are encouraged to bring along their culinary creations and the contest will be judged by celebrity baker Fiona Cairns and former cricketer Matthew Hoggard, who are both our Patrons. Fiona, who shot to fame after bakery Fiona Cairns Ltd was commissioned to make the royal wedding cake for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will also be creating a special birthday cake masterpiece for visitors.

Rainbows CEO Dee Sissons welcomed people in the East Midlands to the event. “Come and experience Rainbows through the eyes of our children, young people and their families,” she said.

“As well as it being a very special birthday for us, our Open Day is about celebrating the incredible work that happens at Rainbows, none of which would have been possible without the amazing help that we have received from our supporters in the East Midlands over the last 25 years.

“Rainbows is continually developing and is a hospice that is nationally and internationally recognised. We have a fantastic team at the hospice but we couldn’t do it without your support. On behalf of everyone here at Rainbows, thank you.”

Over the last few months, supporters have also kindly been knitting an array of flowers. These will be showcased in the grounds of our hospice on the day, as a ‘Memory Meadow’ to mark the 25 years of care. Visitors who make a donation to Rainbows towards this project, will be able to choose a flower to take home with them on the day.

Guests can also browse stalls and enjoy a BBQ, refreshments and lots of cake.

The event takes place at Rainbows Hospice, Lark Rise, Loughborough from 10.30am – 3pm. For more information, visit rainbows.co.uk/openday
