RIGHT ROYAL OPENING FOR RAINBOWS NEW KITCHEN
25 MAY 2011
On Monday, May 23, Fiona Cairns – the highly acclaimed cake designer and baker for the recent Royal wedding – officially opened the brand new kitchen at Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People in Loughborough.
Fiona, who spent five weeks creating the eight-tier cake for Prince William’s wedding to Catherine Middleton last month opened the state-of-the-art kitchen by decorating cakes alongside children from Rainbows and hosting a special master class for mums and staff. And – especially for the opening – Fiona also baked a special Rainbows cake, which featured five layers of multi-coloured icing.
The brand new kitchen is the final refurbishment to be made to the hospice following the opening of the Building for the Future £4million therapy suite earlier this year. The impressive state-of-the-art kitchen boasts brand new equipment, including ovens and fridges, a new buffet bar and even a separate, smaller kitchen for parents and families to enjoy. The kitchen has also been given a complete colour-scheme makeover with brand new bespoke wallpaper, which was donated by ohpopsi.com.
Fiona said: “Rainbows’ new kitchen is fantastic and it was an absolute privilege to visit the hospice and officially open it. I only wish I had a kitchen like it at home!
“It was a pleasure to meet the children, young people, families and staff at the hospice and to see the amazing work that Rainbows does.”
Margaret Hill, Chef at Rainbows, said: “We’re really pleased with the brand new kitchen facilities, which will enable us to cater for the additional children and young people we’re able to care for since the opening of the new bedrooms and therapy wing earlier this year.
“We are very grateful for all the donations Rainbows receives each year so that projects such as the new kitchen can be completed – each donation makes a difference to the life-limited children and young people that visit us. Having Fiona with us to officially open the kitchen was brilliant – I’ll certainly be using some of the tips I picked up in the master class in our new kitchen.”
The new kitchen facilities – especially the new smaller kitchen area – provide additional space for the children, young people, staff and parents to be together.
