New Therapy Wing unveiled at Press Day

The new Therapy Wing at Rainbows was unveiled to press yestarday at a special press day event held at the hospice. Comprising of a new hydrotherapy pool, a state-of-the-art multi-sensory room, family support lounge, 14 new and refurbished bedrooms and much more, Rainbows has invested £4million in the new facility – built as part of the Building for the Future project – which is expected to accommodate even more local children and young people and enable them to give additional days of much needed respite as well as enable provide additional support to local families.

Geoff Ellis, Chief Executive at Rainbows, said: “Being able to provide continuity of care for our young people will be a huge benefit and remove a lot of their anxiety about the potential need to transfer to an adult hospice, which can be difficult for everyone involved. However, the new therapy wing and additional bedrooms will end this uncertainty and increase access to the many children and young people who depend on our invaluable service. All of the children and young people visiting Rainbows will be able to enjoy the new facilities, enhancing the quality of their lives and making their stay so much better.

“Our expansion in facilities will require the charity to now raise £3.8 million each year, primarily through donations. But with the support and generosity of our sponsors from across the East Midlands, we’re confident of achieving this goal and continuing the great work that Rainbows achieves.”

The name of Rainbows’s new mascot bear was also announced to familes in which the name ‘Bow’ was chosen.
