Midnight mums raise £14,500 for Rainbows

Almost two hundred women including two beauty queens gathered at midnight on Saturday to create magic by raising money to help care for children and young people at Rainbows Hospice.

The Miles for Midnight Walk began at Loughborough Town Hall, where the ladies limbered up with aerobics and a massage before setting off on the six mile round-trip by moonlight.

A moving account from two mums of how Rainbows had helped their children and families started the evening, then the mood was raised with music from a local band as the walk started on the stroke of midnight.

Walkers were joined in their night-time quest by Miss Loughborough and Miss Leicester Galaxy.

Rainbows provides care for children and young people with life limiting illnesses and life threatening conditions as well as support for their whole families.

Maggie Deere, Rainbows’ events organiser said: “The atmosphere was tremendous and we are absolutely delighted at the enthusiasm of the women and so impressed at the effort put in by all who took part.”

“We also want to thank the band, Blue Horizon, who not only played free of charge but also gave us £300 to start the ball rolling.”
