Loughborough children’s nurse tackles UK’s highest mountains

A Loughborough nurse is scaling the UK’s three highest peaks to raise money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

Julian Fletcher, 42, has worked at the hospice – which cares for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses – for five years.

In what Julian describes as a “crazy suggestion made over a pint after a football game”, he now plans to tackle Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just one weekend.

He will take on the challenge with friends Colin Hogg, Chris Jones and Gareth Coates, all of Leicestershire. 

Julian said: “I have always wanted to do this challenge and one night we were having a drink and it ended up being talked about. So, we all decided to do it. 

“It was obvious to me that I should do it for Rainbows as it is a place that is very close to me. The hospice is run almost entirely on donations and without our supporters, it would be very hard for us to do the amazing work we do. So, I just wanted to do my bit and I am looking forward to it.”

Julian hopes to raise around £400 from the challenge, which will take place from October 1 to 3.
