Leicester’s Big 10k is back and organisers are confident it will be bigger and better.

More than 600 runners took part in last year’s Big 10k Event. This year’s event, which is sponsored by Western Power Distribution, takes place on Sunday 12 May and it is hoped that more than 800 runners will take part.

Race organiser, Threshold Events, is confident they will attract in excess of 800 runners and in turn help raise invaluable funds for its charity partner – Rainbows Hospice For Children and Young People – which helps children, young people and their families in Leicestershire who are living with life-limiting illnesses.

Rob Minton, Race Director of Threshold Events, said: “Securing Western Power Distribution as title sponsor is a real coup for the event. I think the success of last year really helped and just proved the kind of reach this event has. Leicester was crying out for an event of this kind and we know this races will grow year-on-year and will be of great benefit to all those involved – sponsors and charity alike.”

Stella Hayward, Corporate Communications Officer at Western Power Distribution, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting our city’s premier running event. We were very keen to be involved and support the race, so being the title sponsor is fantastic – we’re very much looking forward to the day.”

The race starts at 9.30am at Abbey Park. Participants run along a very flat route, inside and outside of the park. All runners will receive a technical t-shirt and goody bag. There will be dedicated prizes for the first, second and third male and female finishers, plus a team prize and corporate team prize.

Katie Baxter, Community and Events Manager at Rainbows said: “It is a great honour to have been chosen as the charity partner for Leicester’s Big 10K. We are really excited and we are hoping 2013’s race will be huge success.”
