Fireworks extravaganza raises over £80,000

Our annual bonfire and fireworks extravaganza went with a bang raising over £80,000 at a sellout event.

A total of 12,000 people attended our Pennies for the Guy event on Saturday (5th) night at Leicester Racecourse. People were treated to two firework displays, one of which was Disney themed, and a huge bonfire topped with a Guy made by children from Stoneygate School. There was also a large funfair along with stalls, food and bars.

Victoria Brunt, event organiser at Rainbows, said: “This was the most successful bonfire and fireworks event we have ever held and special thanks must go to the dedicated group of volunteers who organise it every year with Rainbows. The event wouldn’t happen without them. We are so grateful for all the support. We would also like to thank Leicester singer and entertainer Neil Warner and Leicestershire band Arc Isla who both performed for the crowds.

“Rainbows is the only hospice in the East Midlands to care for hundreds of children and young people with life-limited illnesses and events such this, are pivotal to our work. We have had such fantastic feedback, everyone really enjoyed themselves. We can’t wait for next year’s event and we would encourage people to get their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.”
