East Midlands community can help Rainbows’ bereavement services

Members of the Co-op can help Rainbows receive up to £6,200 to improve our bereavement services.

We have been selected to take part in the Co-op Local Community Fund, one of three causes in the community which Co-op Members can select to support between now and 23 October. The more members who select our charity and shop with the Co-op, the more funds we will receive.

We will use the fund to provide a space for families, who are bereaved, to come together and celebrate precious lives and to lament their loss.

The money would also go towards planning and holding our Annual Remembrance Day, including purchasing craft materials for children’s bereavement activities. Depending on restrictions associated with Covid-19, families whose children have died will be invited to a reflective service and an informal lunch, where memories will be shared.

David Hamilton, Psychological & Bereavement Support Lead at Rainbows, said: “Our experience tells us that the community of bereaved families feel the value of being together and noticing they are not alone. The sensitivity of the words and music chosen for the Remembrance Service allows families to connect to unexpressed grief in a safe supportive environment. This contributes positively to their mental well-being and helps them to carry on after the death of their child.”
