Derby Cathedral Abseil Postponed

We are very sorry and extremely disappointed to announce that we have had to postpone our Derby Cathedral Abseil on Saturday 7 May 2022 due to circumstances beyond our control.

There are Peregrine Falcons nesting on the top of the Cathedral Tower and wildlife experts have stated it is imperative they aren’t disturbed. Because of this, the Cathedral management has stipulated today (4 May) that no prolonged activity is allowed at the top of the tower until late June for their protection.

The event will be rescheduled for later in the year.

Alison Furlong, Head of Community and Events at Rainbows, said: “We apologise for the short notice in rescheduling this event. We only found out ourselves today and, unfortunately, it is simply out of our control. We understand this will be a huge disappointment for all of our participants and everyone involved in the event.

“It has been an incredibly difficult two years for Rainbows because of so many events not going ahead due to the pandemic. The Derby Abseil is one of our most popular and widely supported events, and it raises so much money for our hospice. We too are disappointed by today’s news and we hope that people will be able to join us at our rescheduled event later in the year.”

Anyone who has signed up to the event will be contacted by a member of our team.
