Summit the world's highest free-standing mountain and join us on an exhilarating adventure to the top of Africa, as we summit Mount Kilimanjaro in 2020.

As Africa's highest mountain, standing tall at 5,895m, Kilimanjaro is a magnet for trekkers and climbers and this challenge will see you join them as you make your way along the beautiful Machame Route, through diverse landscapes which change as you climb the peak giving you fantastic views across the mountains and valleys. By taking this route, we'll gradually acclimatise to the altitude as we climb to the summit, while we'll also wander through dense tropical rainforst and snow-capped peaks. While this is a tough challenge, it'll be spectacularly rewarding and we cannot wait for you to come and join us.

What you can expect from the challenge:

Day 1: We depart the UK for our overnight flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport
Day 2: Upon arrival we'll be met by our ground handler rep and transfered to our lodge in Moshi. Later on in the day, we'll have a climb briefing and equipment check
Day 3: Post breakfast, we transfer to Machame Gate where we register and complete the National Park formalities. We'll start treking - covering approximately 9km in 5-7 hours.
Day 4: A short day but steep, and in places, rocky trek to Shira Plateau where we'll be rewarded with great views of the mountain.
Day 5: We'll travel approximately 10km over 6-7 hours as we make our way from Shira Camp to Barranco Camp, experiencing an ever-changing scenery which also takes in Lava Tower, where we'll stop for lunch.
Day 6: An adventurous day, which will see us conquer "Breakfast Wall" as it is known to the locals. Once we take in our achievements at the top, we'll witness stunning views beofre continuing uthroguh the green valley until we reach our camp at Karanga Valley.
Day 7: Another short but steep challenging day, across the barren landscape which will give us breathtaking views of the Decken Glaciers.
Day 8: We start the day using our head torches to light the way, and the next four hours will be spent trekking to Stella Point over scree and rock. Trekking doesn't get better than it does on this day - and we'll be making regular stops to aid our chances of reaching Uhuru Peak.
Day 9: Our descent continues to the main park gate, once there we'll make our way back to the lodge through beautiful coffee plantations and traditional small villages - ending the day as a group with a celebratory dinner.
Day 10: Breakfast, a bit of free time and then it's onto the airport for our return flights home.

How much does it cost?

Registration Fee: £399

Then there are two options when it comes to funding the challenge:

  • Option A - Minimum Sponsorship: £4360 (half goes to Rainbows, the rest covers the cost of the challenge and goes to our partners, Global Adventure)
    Airport Taxes: £250
  • Option B - Self-Funded: £2,180 
    Airport Taxes: £250

What's Included?

Is the trek suitable for me?

The trek is suitable for all abilities with the correct training.  The minimum age for this trek is 18 years old (if you are aged between 13-17 years old you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).  The one thing everyone will have in common is a great sense of adventure and the desire to help a charity.  Whether you are taking part as an individual or as a team with friends, team spirit will be flying high on the challenge. 

How fit do I need to be?

The trek has been designed to be challenging but achievable as long as you train beforehand.You will be trekking for seven consecutive days, and at high altitude and in varied temperatures, a good cardiovascular fitness is required – the fitter you are the more you will enjoy the challenge!  We will provide you with a full training guide once you register, this is also available to download via our website.  Why not join one of our challenge training weekends – it’s a great opportunity for you to meet our team and other challengers, and train together prior to the event.
