• What kind of event should I organise?

Anything you like! We’ve had supporters put on everything from wine and cheese nights to charity football matches, from fashion shows to coffee mornings, and everything in between. Use your imagination and see where it takes you.

A few ideas to get you started: Coffee morning; tea party; cake sale; wine tasting; concert, cabaret or variety show; bring and buy sale; amateur sports match; dinner and auction; dance marathon; sponsored walk, run, swim or cycle; family fun day; fancy dress day; games tournament; open gardens…

We love talking to supporters and helping any way we can, please contact your local Community Fundraiser who can support you, send us an email or call us on 01509 638 005

  • How do I make sure my event makes money?

Draw up a budget before you start. Remember to factor in costs for venue hire, supplies, food and drinks, incidentals like raffle tickets, and anything else you need. Events that cost less to put on, or where you can make sure they’re viable before you lay out money upfront, are best.

One good way to keep costs down is to ask for support from local businesses. Companies can help by offering use of a venue for free, by giving raffle or auction prizes, and even by becoming event sponsors. Usually, a sponsor will give a certain amount of money towards the cost of an event in exchange for advertising, such as putting their logo on any promotional materials or webpages.

After that, the ways to maximise your profits are endless. Sell tickets in advance and/or charge an entry fee on the door. Leave donation buckets in prominent places. Set up a JustGiving page so that people who can’t make it can still support you. Hold a raffle or auction. Sell refreshments. And don’t forget to promote like mad on social media!

  • How can Rainbows support me?

People who organise events for us are so important to us and we want to support you every step of the way. Some of the ways we can support you include:

    • Offering advice and sharing our expertise at the planning stages
    • Supplying collection buckets, banners, posters, flyers and more
    • Helping to promote your event. We can supply you with poster templates, our Supporting Rainbows Logo, and Social Media Assets
    • Coming to speak to your group about Rainbows

We can help you plan your event so it is legal and safe – there is legislation around things such as food preparation and handling, and managing raffles. We can provide guidance and advise you where to access key information.
