Haveer

“For the last 20 years, life has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs but Rainbows is there for us.”

Raj is a full-time carer to his 20-year-old son, Haveer. Haveer has an acute form of Cerebral Palsy caused by complications, and a lack of oxygen, at birth.

Raj said he is forever grateful to the Hospice that makes their lives easier by providing expert palliative care. At Rainbows, Haveer gets vital support from our incredible team, whose vast experience means they understand his needs.

“Haveer is a twin and his brother, Harmeet, is fine,” said Raj. “When they were born, it was a very difficult first few months. It was winter, there were lots of bugs and infections and there were many doubting days for us.

“He needs care all of the time, which is where Rainbows helps so much. Haveer can’t sit, eat or drink. He is tube fed and he needs oxygen.

“He has a shunt, which cracked in 2019 and he collapsed at home and nearly died. He survived, but he became more dependent.”

Haveer’s condition means he can’t express any feelings or emotions, but he loves to be with his twin brother, Harmeet, and sister, Damanjit. Our team are specialists in helping Haveer with different therapies, which are not only beneficial for Haveer, they make life a little easier for his family.

“Rainbows provides amazing facilities and I get relief from the day-to-day life providing care for Haveer 24/7,” said Raj, who is also a carer for his wife, Ruby.

“Rainbows has been so helpful. I have to do everything. When Haveer is at home, I can’t sleep properly and always have to keep an eye open. At Rainbows, I can sleep as I know Haveer is in the hands of expert nurses who understand him and his complex needs. Rainbows means such a lot to us.”
