Tesco bags help for Rainbows

Tesco has awarded £500 to Rainbows to help our Family Support Team during the Covid-19 crisis.

The Bags of Help grant will help us as we adapt to new ways of working safely with the life-limited children and young people we support. We have been identifying how best to provide information and practical support that will really make a difference to those families.

One area is communication. Instead of visiting our hospice, parents and young adults are now receiving more virtual support, especially phone calls. The Tesco grant will fund eight Family Support Team member’s mobile phone costs for the next three months.

Helen Graham, Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser at Rainbows, said: “During the Covid-19 crisis, families and their children have an increased need because of isolation and reduction in accessible services. The Rainbows Family Support Team have been working hard, thinking of alternative ways to help, while observing the rules laid down, particularly with regards to shielding and social distancing, in these unprecedented times.

“Technology has become everyone’s friend and our Family Support Team are no exception. Virtual communication has replaced face-to-face contact. In the last few weeks they have been in contact with over 420 families, many of them multiple times. Their support to families is priceless.

“We would like to thank Tesco, which is supported by Groundwork UK, for this wonderful donation and a life-line for so many.”
