Friends of Rainbows: A Ride on the Great Central Railway
Experience the Leicestershire Countryside from the comfort of a vintage steam train!
Come and join us for a journey through time at The Great Central Railway, the UK’s only double track, main line heritage railway, whilst also learning a little about the work of Rainbows.
As we pass through the stations, you’ll see a glimpse of different moments in history, whilst enjoying the views of the Leicestershire Countryside, aboard the unique historic Veranda Coach, one of the railways beautifully restored carriages with a large balcony, whilst enjoying tea, coffee and cake.
We’ll set off from Loughborough Station passing through Quorn and Woodhouse Station, over Swithland Reservoir, Rothley Station and on to Leicester North, where the train prepares for the journey back to Loughborough. The round-trip lasts approximately an hour and a half.
Tickets are £20 per person, please do invite friends and relatives to come along for a lovely afternoon to learn about Rainbows!
Please note, this is an adult only event. The vehicle is fitted with its own large lavatory and also has wheelchair access should this be required, please ensure you let us know about any accessibility or dietary requirements when booking.
About the Great Central Railway
There is a lot to experience at The Great Central Railway, Loughborough Station itself has a shop, buffet and emporium as well as a museum containing historical information and artefacts from the start of railways and in particular the Great Central.
As the train pulls out of the station you will travel along a preserved heritage railway, unique in the UK – a double track main line. You will pass historical landmarks and open countryside, including the wooded hills of Charnwood Forest, Swithland Reservoir and a concrete tank trap built in World War II.
