Retail volunteers:

Without shop volunteers we could not have shops!  You are hugely important to our work on ‘the high street’ where we raise the profile of Rainbows, sell products and generate essential money to support the work of the hospice.  As a shop volunteer, you are part of a team that are the professional friendly voice and the welcoming face of Rainbows for shoppers and visitors to our shops.

Will it suit me?

If you love speaking to a wide variety of people and would enjoy the variety of working in a shop, displaying and selling Rainbows own products and donated items, this volunteer role is perfect.  You do not need previous retail experience but do need to be a good communicator, like to ‘get stuck in’ and thrive in working as part of a fun-loving team. If you are able to offer 2-3 hours a week or more, the role would be perfect.

Typical tasks the work could involve

  • provide a warm and welcoming environment and the very best in Customer Service
  • undertake routine duties to include serving customers at the till, wrapping goods, handling cash/cheques/credit card payments and issuing receipts
  • advise customers on the Gift Aid Scheme
  • ensure shelves, rails and the shop window are well displayed with stock and refreshed on a regular basis in line with Rainbows guidelines
  • assist with displays in all areas of the shop including the shop window
  • sort and arrange any donated items ready for sale (steaming, hanging, deciding on a price in accordance with the pricing guidelines, ticketing and displaying)
  • answer customer queries and ensure any complaints are referred to the Manager or Supervisor
  • be aware of local events and help to ensure any event or fundraising activity is advertised with tickets for sale easily visible in the shop

Housekeeping volunteers:

With many visitors to all our building seven days a week, our team of Housekeepers do a truly amazing job ensuring every area is clean, tidy and welcoming to everyone, as well as maintaining infection control standards.  You could be part of this team right across the hospice with 14 bedrooms, four family flats, a conference centre, swimming pool area, therapy/activity rooms, lounges, social areas, bathrooms/toilet facilities, and a dining room to take pride in on top of the offices and welcoming main entrance.

Will it suit me?

If you have previous cleaning experience or just enjoy being ‘house proud’ and like to meet a variety of people whenever you are with us, this volunteer role is a great fit.  We ask that you offer your time and your friendly personality for 2-3 hours on a regular basis on any day of the week to suit you between 9am-5pm Monday to Sunday.

Typical tasks the work could involve

  • vacuuming
  • polishing and dusting
  • emptying bins
  • mopping floors
  • clearing crockery
  • wiping down surfaces
  • general cleaning of offices and lounges
  • some assistance with laundry and ironing
