Statement – Hoax donation to Rainbows

On Tuesday we were informed by Virgin Money Giving that Rainbows were due to receive an anonymous donation of £150,000 to the fundraising page of the late Susan Taylor – who tragically died while attempting to swim across the Channel.

This donation was removed from Susan’s online page until it had been confirmed in our bank. After liaising with Virgin Money Giving, we now believe this donation to be a hoax.

Geoff Ellis, chief executive at Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, said:

Rainbows Thanks Donors Who Gave in Memory of Susan Taylor

We would like to thank kind-hearted donors who have honoured the memory of Susan Taylor by contributing to Rainbows.

Susan Taylor (34) died while she was taking part in her createaripple.co.uk challenge for Rainbows Hospice and Diabetes UK. She tragically died on Sunday in Boulogne after she collapsed on the final part of the challenge.

Susan had been one of our Ambassadors for over two years. During that time she has tirelessly fundraised, helped out at events and raised awareness of the hospice.

Susan Taylor, a sad loss for us all.

Today we heard some devastating news about our wonderful ambassador, Susan Taylor. Susan sadly died whilst trying to complete a channel swim yesterday. She was a wonderful woman who would do anything for anybody. She has been a much loved Ambassador at Rainbows for over two years, helping out at events and tirelessly fundraising for us. She was more than an Ambassador; she was part of the Rainbows family.
