England cricketers bowl into Rainbows with donation

The England Women's Cricket Team braved arctic conditions to bowl into Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People – and present a four-figure donation.

The team first visited the Loughborough-based centre, which offers support to youngsters with life-limiting conditions, before setting off for their successful 2017 World Cup campaign. 

And squad members subsequently decided to raise cash for the charity by running 100km on Christmas Day.

Football legends fulfill Leicester lad Shivam’s dream

A dream came true for a young Leicestershire man with a life-limiting condition when he met two of his all-time sporting heroes - thanks to Rainbows hospice and Superstar Speakers.

Shivam Nathwani, (19) of Birstall, is pictured with former Manchester United footballing legends Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke at an event at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.

The evening, part of the 'Treble Winners Tour', featured Yorke and Cole, who were with the Manchester United team which won the Premier League title, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League during the 1998/99 season.

Holland & Barrett donates £100,000 to Rainbows children’s hospice

Holland & Barrett Chief Executive Peter Aldis paid an emotional visit to Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in Leicestershire to donate £100,000 and meet with a family who receive vital support for their poorly baby.

It is the 10th year that the Nuneaton-based health and wellbeing retailer has donated to the hospice, contributing a grand total of £871,000 over the last decade. The money has helped to fund critical care for the children and families who use its facilities and the fresh donation will help this work continue.

The queen of cakes, Fiona Cairns brought a touch of baking magic to Rainbows Hospice youngsters. And it was a recipe for winning smiles!

Famous for creating The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake, Fiona came to the Loughborough-based charity, which supports children and young adults with life-limiting conditions, to share tips and help them whip up their very own majestic creations.

Runners across the East Midlands are being invited to take up the challenge of the Great North Run to raise money for youngsters with life-limiting conditions – and benefit from top coaching advice.

The ballot for sought-after places for the world’s biggest half marathon may have just closed, but Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People – based in Loughborough – has its own allocation for those willing to run for the charity.

Lost ‘£20,000’ charity guitar signed by the stars is found – 10 years on!

A classic electric guitar signed by rock legends and missing for 10 years has been returned to its original owner – and will be sold to benefit hospice youngsters.

The Fender Stratocaster – said to be valued in excess of £20,000 – was originally acquired by Midlands music promoter David Allen, who approached his contacts in the business to sign the guitar, including rock icons Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler, Bill Wyman, the late Gary Moore, Pete Townsend and Brian May, who all duly agreed.

Kate’s a natural for Rainbows celebrity lunch

Popular TV presenter and writer Kate Humble has teamed up with Rainbows hospice and is Leicestershire-bound to attend the charity’s Celebrity Annual Lunch as its guest speaker.

The event, which takes place on Wednesday, 7 March is a chance to share a sumptuous three-course lunch with the celebrity broadcaster at Welford Road Stadium, home of the Leicester Tiger. Guests will hear anecdotes and entertaining stories, followed by a question and answer session.
