Edlaston and Wyaston Well Dressings
This year members of the tiny communities of Edlaston and Wyaston near Ashbourne will come together again to prepare beautiful dressings for the Bishop's Well and the Village Well. Preparations are already underway but the real hard work begins on 9th June, when the clay is first put onto the wooden boards. It is then a week of intense hard work to create the dressings, this year depicting Jesus calming the storm at the Village Well and Winnie the Pooh at the Bishop's Well, which is decorated by the children of the villages.
The main celebration event takes place on Saturday 15th June, starting with a short, family service at St James' Church, Edlaston at 2pm followed by a procession to and blessing at each well, all accompanied by a local brass band. After the blessings, there is afternoon tea as well as children's races at the village hall, from around 3:15pm. The wells then remain dressed throughout the following week. Money raised from this year's event will go to Rainbows Children's Hospice and another local charity.
