We have teamed up with My Virtual Mission to bring you our virtual distance challenge - Miles for Rainbows throughout May.
We have teamed up with My Virtual Mission to bring you our virtual distance challenge - Miles for Rainbows throughout May. We have two routes for you to choose from, either 150 miles or 600 miles. Both routes travel around the East Midlands counties. Just pick your route and click through to sign up.
- 150 miles - a route which will take in some of the major towns and cities in the East Midlands. This challenge works out at around 10,000 steps per day as if you manually enter 10,000 steps then the website converts this to 5 miles. This challenge is ideal for individuals but it can also be done as a team challenge.
- 600 miles - a route which is ideal for teams, or those looking for a serious challenge! This route roughly follows the boundaries of the counties which we cover, in the East Midlands. As a team your miles will add up and collectively you’ll work together to complete 600 miles.
You can complete your miles by stepping, running, walking or any activity in a wheelchair. Your distance will be recorded on My Virtual Mission either manually or syncing with an existing app. As you complete the miles you’ll move along your chosen route. However you are completing your miles, please ensure you follow current Government guidelines for your area when taking part in Miles for Rainbows.
Fundraising for Rainbows:
When taking part in Miles for Rainbows we’d love you to fundraise for us. There isn’t a fundraising target for this event but we are grateful for any amount you are able to raise. Anyone who raises £50 per person will receive a Rainbows water bottle as an extra thank you!
- £50 could fund a home visit from a Rainbows nurse, giving respite care to an isolated family
- £100 could fund a two hour music therapy session, providing a space for a child or young person to express themselves
Fundraising is easy, especially if you use JustGiving. You can create a JustGiving page to help make your online fundraising easier. By setting up a JustGiving page through this link, your fundraising amount will be added to the overall Miles for Rainbows total.
The cost to enter will be £15 and in return, all participants will receive a special wooden medal once they have completed the challenge.
Ahead of the challenge, you'll also receive a Fundraising Guide which will provide more information on the challenge, how to log your miles via My Virtual Mission and support from our Community Fundraisers.
We look forward to seeing your photos as you take on the challenge, don't forget to use #MilesForRainbows when posting online. And we’d love for you to join the Miles for Rainbows Facebook Group where you can encourage others and celebrate your achievements during Miles for Rainbows. Please feel free to share your journey, photos and stories.
Yes, we have a maximum team size of 4 people. Entering as a team means your individual distances will be added together to move you along the route. If you’d like to set up a team ask everyone to sign up individually then ask the Team Captain to email firstname.lastname@example.org with the names and email addresses of those in your team along with a team name and photo/icon (this will be used on the map to show your location). To ensure your team is set up ready for the 1 May start date please email this information by Monday 26 April.
There is no expectation to fundraise and no minimum fundraising target however any amount you are able to raise will make a different to the children, young people and families supported by Rainbows. Anyone who raises £50 per person will receive a Rainbows water bottle as a thank you.
Yes, everyone who enters will receive a medal. This will be sent out by the end of June. During your challenge you will need to provide your address details for this. We will be in touch with you to collect this information once the challenge has started.
Miles for Rainbows will launch on 1 May and we’d love as many people as possible to complete this by the end of May. If it is taking you a little longer, this isn’t a problem you are able to change your timeframe once you’ve signed up, up to a maximum of 12 weeks.
Miles can be completed by stepping, running, walking or activity in a wheelchair. Unfortunately, cycling and other activity can’t be counted towards your miles.
