Derby Cathedral Abseil 2020 for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People

Calling all daredevils and those with a head for heights, come and join us at Derby Cathedral as our charity abseil returns

Calling all daredevils and those with a head for heights, come and join us at Derby Cathedral as our charity abseil returns on Saturday 22 May 2021.

For one day only, you'll have the chance to climb the 189 steps to the top of the cathedral's tower. Here you'll be harnessed up, before climbing over the edge and abseiling the 212ft back down - you're bound to feel an adrenaline rush afterwards!

This challenge will give you spectacular views across Derby as you stand at the top of the tower, the chance to see the clock-face up close as you abseil down, while every penny you raise in sponsorship will help make magical memories for local children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Our abseil is available from 9am until 5.30pm and you'll be asked your preferred time slot when booking. This event always proves popular with children and adults alike, so be quick - you won't want to miss out!

Keeping you safe: Covid-19 Precautions:

We have taken necessary steps to make sure that this event is able to take place in a Covid-safe way. As such, along with social distancing being implemented, there will be a strict one-way system in place on the day, with hand sanitising stations available at registration, before you abseil and when you finish.

There will also be minimal contact from the instructors, who'll be wearing face coverings during any harnessing and testing of equipment.

How much does it cost?

There's a cost of £20 to sign up and all participants are required to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.

By raising the £100 in sponsorship, you could help fund two-hours of Music Therapy here at the hospice. As many of our children don’t have the language skills they need to express their emotions or may not find it easy to talk about their feelings, music therapy provides an ideal space in which to express themselves.  If you go that one step further with your fundraising, and raise £260, you could help fund five hours of vital nursing care here at Rainbows, while smashing the sponsorship target and raising £300 could fund a day's worth of housekeeping costs, helping to keep our children and young people free from infection.

To help with your fundraising ahead of the event, we have a dedicated team of Community Fundraisers who are on hand to offer advice and support, as well as a Fundraising Guide, Fundraising Tips and Social Media Assets for you to use. These can all be found via rainbows.co.uk/assets

Is there an age limit?

The abseil is suitable for children aged 11-years-old and upwards, as well as adults.
