Magnificent Mick Ives takes on Giro D’Italia for Rainbows
In May this year, the 100th edition of the Giro D’Italia – one of the most prestigious grand tours along with the Tour de France – will begin. A few days ahead of the race start, 77 year old Mick Ives will set off to follow the 3,400 kilometre route, starting in Sardinia, through Sicily and then travelling northwards along the length of Italy, finishing in Milan. A former professional cyclist, Mick is using the immense challenge to raise money for Rainbows and three other charities.
The challenge is being sponsored by three companies, each of whom were able to nominate a charity. Loughborough based Polypipe who have supported Rainbows for a number of years have nominated us as one of Mick’s charities.
Steve Kite, Sales Director at Polypipe said: “We are proud to sponsor Mick on his epic cycling challenge through Italy. More so, we are pleased to put Rainbows forward as our chosen charity for Mick to fundraise for. Rainbows has been a charity close to the hearts of Polypipe employees and we are honoured to continue raising funds to support children and young people within Leicestershire and the East Midlands that Rainbows cares for.”
Updates from Mick’s cycle and more information can be found on his dedicated webpage – http://micksitalianjob.co.uk/
On behalf of everyone at Rainbows, we wish Mick and the team fair winds, smooth roads and the very best of luck on such an amazing adventure!
