Referring a child
We offer our services and support to children, young people and their families when a child or young person has a life-limiting condition and is expected to not live far into adulthood. We’re here to help children and their families who live in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, north Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Rutland and South Yorkshire.
Referrals can be made by anyone involved with the child and family, including the family themselves. We’ll then obtain the information we need from the child’s GP and consultant. And one of our nurses will visit the family to tell them about us and learn more about the child.
Our process
All referrals are reviewed by our admissions panel which meets monthly. A decision is made on whether the family will be accepted and it may be necessary to accept on a yearly review basis depending on the diagnosis.
Emergency referrals for palliative or end-of-life care can be made at any time. We do everything we can to respond very quickly – in fact, we can make an admission within a few hours in these circumstances.
