Volunteer to join our team

Volunteers are vital to our work. If you can spare any extra time to help Rainbows, then we’d love to welcome you on board.

Volunteering is a great way of meeting new people, gaining valuable work experience and building your skills and confidence. We rely on volunteers to help within the hospice, in the garden and with fundraising.  All volunteers are interviewed and references and police checks are taken because of the nature of the work we do.

We’re very flexible about the time that you give. So if you’re over 16 years of age, your first step is to complete a “volunteer application form“. We’ll then ask you over for an informal chat and we’ll also need to obtain a C.R.B . (police) clearance. After that, you’ll attend a volunteer induction day.

Hospice Volunteers

Our hospice volunteers help on reception, with housekeeping, in the kitchen, gardening and in the offices. After training, volunteers can also work in our play team and with our sibling support group.

There are always lots of opportunities to help us in and around the hospice. If you have special skills or specific interests and would like to give some of your time, please contact Penny Hopkins, our volunteer co-coordinator. 01509 638 059

Our current roles:

  • Reception – General administrators to work a few hours a week in the hospice office.
  • Kitchen – Volunteers to help our chef with preparing meals and clearing up.
  • Garden – Gardeners to help out on the hospice grounds and with our Eco Garden.
  • Marketing – Promoting Rainbows is a big task and we always need a hand getting our message out there. If you have experience in marketing, please get in touch.
  • General admin – General admin for a few hours a week in the hospice office.

Fundraising volunteers

Fundraising volunteers play an important role in supporting the Rainbows’ Community Fundraisers and the Events team.  With extensive and varied roles, there is something for everyone and your support is vital in helping us reach new supporters.

After the application process and relevant training, we will supply you with all the necessary literature, information and fundraising tools when required.
