Payroll Giving

Thousands of people in local workplaces are using payroll giving to support our work of caring for life-limited children and their families.

What is payroll giving?

Payroll giving is a simple, flexible and tax-effective method of charitable giving which allows employees to donate to Rainbows by a direct deduction from their wage.

This way, instead of the tax being sent to the government, it is sent to Rainbows. For example, as a standard rate taxpayer, if you pledge £5.00 from your gross salary each month (£1.25 per week) it will only cost you £4.00 but Rainbows gets £5.00 thanks to the taxman not taking his share. The increase in value is even greater if you pay tax at the higher rate.

Employee Pledge to Rainbows Cost to standard rate taxpayer Cost to high rate taxpayer
£5 per month £4.00 £3.00
£8 per month £6.40 £4.80
£10 per month £8.00 £6.00
£15 per month £12.00 £9.00

Who can give?

Anyone can give if their pay or pension is taxed through PAYE. Your employer will need to be offering a Payroll Giving Scheme, which we can advise on setting up.

How do I sign up?

If you already have a Payroll Giving Scheme, just complete the form and send it to your Payroll Department. Remember that when you join the Payroll Giving Scheme every gift you make is tax free.

If your employer doesn’t have a scheme then information about payroll giving is at www.payrollgivingcentre.org.uk or contact Kate Golding at Rainbows to find out more
