RAINBOWS TO BENEFIT FROM X FACTOR CHARITY SINGLE!

Rainbows Hospice For Children and Young People is due to benefit from the X Factor charity single, a cover of Rose Royce classic ‘Wishing on a Star’. Launched this Sunday, 27 November live on ITV, the single will be performed on X Factor by the last sixteen contestants as well as JLS and One Direction (who visited the hospice in October).

All net proceeds will go to Together for Short Lives who represent all children’s hospices nationally, including Rainbows in Loughborough. The charity was handpicked by Simon Cowell, who is a patron and has supported the organisation for a number of years.

Simon Cowell, Patron of Together for Short Lives comments on his involvement in the charity, “I have seen first-hand the invaluable care and support they offer to thousands of young people and their families, so I am thrilled that the X Factor charity single this year will benefit this charity.

“Whenever I spend time with these children and families, I realise just how many challenges they face. And when I visit the places that help them, like a children’s hospice, it is clear to see that they are an incredible lifeline to the families that use them. But they are more than just a building and a lot of support is also given in the home. And it’s not just the kids, it’s the parents and well brothers and sisters that need help.

“Every one of these services relies on the public’s generosity to maintain what they’re doing, otherwise they don’t exist – that’s the reality. The X Factor charity single is an opportunity to help them.”

JLS noted: “Simon Cowell feels strongly about giving his support to Together for Short Lives, and when he asked us to get involved, we were obviously going to say yes!

“It must be difficult trying to lead a normal life when you’re looking after a child who needs you 24/7, so the help the children and their families get is so important. That’s why it’s fantastic that the money raised by the single will help these children.”

“Our fans are fantastic; they know how important charity work and giving something back is to us, we’re sure they’ll support us and buy the single.

“Every single bought means more money for seriously ill kids. It means that children around the UK will be able to continue to have fun, play games and just do what kids like doing.”

Scott Lea, spokesman for Rainbows commented: “The X Factor Single gives Rainbows an extraordinary and unique opportunity to tell the public about the issues that face the children and families we support. It’s amazing to have such an iconic patron as Simon Cowell spreading the word about children’s hospices.

“Rainbows has been so incredibly lucky recently. The X Factor single, our surprise visit from One Direction and coverage on BBC1’s The One Show is not only helping us to get our fundraising message out there, but more importantly new families have approached us who are in need of our services. We’re so very grateful for all the support.”

During their recent visit to Rainbows, One Direction said: “Projects like Rainbows are so important to the children and their families.”

The single costs £3.99 and is available to pre order at HMV and Amazon now, and via download http://xfactor.togetherforshortlives.org.uk on 28 November on Syco Music and in all good high street stores (Sainsbury’s, Tesco, M&S, Asda and many more).

ONE DIRECTION VISITS RAINBOWS!

The UK’s hottest new boy band, One Direction, took time out of their busy schedule to visit Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People on Friday 28th November as part of the BBC’s One Show Children in Need programming.

The band turned up at Rainbows to meet the children, young people and their families and treated them to an acappella rendition of their number one hit ‘That’s What Makes You Beautiful’. They then spent time meeting everyone who had turned up for this special surprise visit.

One Direction’s visit to the local children’s hospice who are supported by BBC Children in Need was filmed as part of the charity’s appearance on BBC1’s The One Show aired on the 3rd November. Presenter Carrie Grant held interviews at Rainbows before the big surprise. These interviews help to explain the desperate need for a charity like Rainbows and give some insight into support BBC Children in Need gives the Hospice..

One Direction said: “The work Children in Need do with projects like Rainbows Hospice is so important to these children and their families. We have grown up with Children in Need and this was the perfect chance for us to show our support. With two weeks to go we hope the public will dig deep and give generously”

Spokesman for Rainbows, Scott Lea said: “Having a visit from such a famous band was absolutely fantastic. And keeping it a secret was probably the hardest thing we’ve done in a long time! All the boys were brilliant, they really got stuck in with meeting everyone, having their photos taken and signing autographs. Everyone who came to see them had a huge smile and took away a lasting and happy memory. It really did mean the world to us.”

Photos of the event can be seen on the Rainbows Flickr page available here www.flickr.com/rainbowshospice
